Local Government

GBEP benefits from close partnerships with our local government
elected officials and staff. Our local government GBEP Partners find these relationships
to be mutually beneficial since they depend upon the benefits the estuary has to offer, from supporting
the local economy to recreation and quality of life.
If your
community is located in the five-county Galveston Bay area, from
Alvin to West University Place, from Brazoria to Liberty County, it
probably lies within the Galveston Bay Watershed, so what
happens on the land potentially affects the bay and its inhabitants.
You play a vital role in the protection and restoration of local
bayous, rivers and ultimately, the Bay.
The Galveston Bay
Estuary Program has made available resources that you and your citizens
can use to help GBEP Preserve Galveston Bay for Generations to
Come... GBEP also provides periodic funding and can work with you by
providing information and technical assistance on issues from parks
and open space preservation to pollution prevention. Specifically,
GBEP can:
- Equip local governments with information on grant programs and
help with proposals
- Help organize and conduct workshops and training
- Prepare letters of support for local action projects
