The commercial fishing industry values Galveston Bay and its environmental health.  In turn, our local economy values you—the commercial fisherman.  Given the value of the bay  to the commercial fishing industry and the importance of the industry to the local economy and environmental health of the bay, the Estuary Program seeks partnerships with commercial fishing industry stakeholders.

As a commercial fisherman, you are likely aware of the many benefits the estuary has to offer.  You are also aware that your fishing activities impact the bay. If you’re out on the water, you've probably seen the litter and other debris that plague our area waterways.  But, you might not realize just how far that debris may have traveled before it fouled your propellor or equipment.

There is much you can do to help Galveston Bay in your daily routines.

  • Reduce boat wakes.
  • Ensure bilge water, sewage and trash is properly disposed.

Take advantage of information offered by the Clean Texas Marina Program, Texas Sea Grant, and the resources and funding available from the Estuary Program.

For more information about commercial fishing industry partnerships, contact Ericka McCauley, Public Information Officer, at 281-486-1246.
